Oh Christmas House, Oh Christmas House...

How lovely are your prizes!

During the month of December, Macklan counted down the days 'til Christmas by opening the tiny little doors on our Christmas house. Each day he would pull open a door revealing a special little prize. He would get super excited about these Dollar Tree treasures--Sixlets, miniature chocolate Santas and snowmen, little figurines, Hershey Kisses, mini M&M's, and bouncy balls. It is such a challenge to find things small enough to fit inside each door that are age appropriate and cheap---but I managed to fill it! On occasion Macklan even found $.25 for his piggy bank or a Post-It note message inside. A few of the prizes I picked up were miniature books and foam puzzles, so I would leave a note leading him to look under the Christmas tree for his prize. Kind of like a scavenger hunt! Every day he anticipated opening another door. I don't think he really got the idea of counting down the days until Christmas; I think he just wanted the prizes! Regardless, it's a fun tradition that will continue for years to come in our house.

25 Days 'til Christmas must seem like an eternity to a 2 year old, but he finally got to open the little door at the top of the Christmas house! Welcome Christmas...

A Child's Joy on Christmas...

is contagious!

I was up around 7:00 a.m. followed shortly by Scott who practically begged me to wake Macklan. Knowing that it would be a busy full-schedule kind of day, I wanted him to sleep as long as possible so I held out and we waited...impatiently though. Pacing up and down the hallway to Macklan's bedroom; tip-toeing into his room to see if he was stirring---Nothing! Sound asleep.

until FINALLY at 8:30 a.m. on Christmas morning Macklan decided to grace us with his presence (with the help of a little tickling from Daddy). Scott and I were growing more antsy by the minute and the three of us were losing valuable play time!

After potty time and a quick comb of the hair (if you have seen his hair in the morning you understand why), Macklan was ready to see what Santa had left under our tree the night before...

My favorite moment is that split second when Macklan peeks around the corner and notices all the presents left by Santa. His eyes brighten and a smile widens on his half-asleep face as he rushes down the steps to get his hands on everything. It brings out the kid-at-heart in me and for that moment I am overwhelmed with excitement too!

Checking out his new Thomas the Train table. Lately, his new fascination has been trains and cars, and he loves it when his Daddy takes him to Barnes and Noble to play with the train set while Mommy shops at TJ Maxx. This scenario makes us all happy!

"Yep! Santa ate all the cookies (leaving me only a few crumbs) and drank all the milk just like Mommy said he would do," puzzled Macklan as he observed the Santa plate and mug.

Another bowling set! Yippee!!!

Loving his train table!

and his Little People airport!

"Tanks Santa!" (This is the cute little way Macklan says thanks right now.)

Can't forget the stocking. He got his very own flashlight (now he can quit asking for Daddy's)...

and...
Mr. Messy & Mr. Bump--other than seeing these little figures in the toy department at Wal-Mart one night in November, Macklan has absolutely no prior connection to the Little Mr. Men. However if I pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot or even mentioned Wal-Mart after him initially seeing this toy, Macklan began chanting for Mr. Bump!
*
I actually remember these characters from my elementary school days. Isn't it funny how things make a reappearance years later!

Elmo, a new toothbrush, M&M's, and books were in his stocking too.

Once the Santa craze had died down, Macklan had more presents to open from Mommy and Daddy. He knew which ones were his since I wrapped them all in Thomas the Train gift wrap. This year, he opened EVERY gift all by himself. He loved it. Tearing the paper away. Revealing a new toy (can you believe that he didn't have an interest in clothing, cute hooded towels, etc.?). Another thing different from last year was that he didn't cry about putting each gift to the side in order to open the next one. He wanted to open the next one! When there were no more to open, he became a little upset but not too bad.

Opening a new game--Cranium's Puppy Bingo

A new digital camera--gonna be just like Mommy! :)

His favorite movie BOLT!

LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet

Our morning was hectic, but packed with fun. At noon we celebrated Christmas with Scott's family, exchanging gifts and enjoying a delicious meal together. Scott put in several hours creating a beautiful DVD slide show of pictures for his Mamaw. Everyone loved it. Macklan had fun opening his gifts and playing with his cousins Austin and Kaitlyn.

Macklan opened this NERF ball set from his Nana and Pap. Football. Soccer ball. Basketball. His favorite!

He also got the Little People Spin 'n Crash Raceway.

Our Christmas was great! I treasured every moment spent with Macklan. It brought joy to my heart to see him open every present this year on his own, bake in the kitchen with him, watch his excitement over the smallest of things, and really begin to understand the true reason for celebrating Christmas...Jesus!

I hope the joy he brings me is contagious!

'Twas the Night Day Before Christmas

Like always Christmas Eve was a busy day for us, but packed with memorable family events. This year Macklan was big enough and showed interest in helping make holiday goodies. So after breakfast, Macklan and I began baking Yummy Bars of Goodness and sugar cookies with sprinkles for Santa (and us of course). It was so much fun having an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. Macklan loved stirring the batters and taste testing every chance he got--which was any time he wanted! He was impressively tidy too.

Stir the cake mix...

Add the chocolate chips...

Taste test--make sure the chocolate chips are chocolately enough! :)

Taste test--making the sugar cookies even sweeter!

Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters to make beautiful cookies.

Anxiously await delicious baked goodies...

On Christmas Eve around 4:30 p.m. we head just a few doors down to Mammie's house (my grandmother). There we enjoy finger foods, Mammie's holiday punch, exchanging of gifts, and even a visit from Santa! This year has proven to be no different than last when it comes to Santa. Macklan is still unsure about the jolly big guy in a red suit. Here he is hiding behind the door as Briley talks to Santa. He ended up pushing the door closed which was quite funny.

Reaching into his stocking from Mammie--

Macklan's favorite gift from Mammie...a bowling set!

After a couple hours at Mammie's, we run home to drop off gifts and leftover finger foods just to load up the van with more gifts as we head to Nana and Pappy's (my parents) who also live just a few doors down from us. I love this one of my boys that I snapped right before we pulled more gifts out from under our tree.

Macklan finding the Christmas pickle ornament.

This sucker was just the thing I needed to get Macklan to sit still long enough for a couple of pictures in front of the tree dressed in his Christmas pj's.

Next we hurried up the road to Nana and Pappy's on the night before Christmas for MORE gifts (and we haven't even made it to Christmas Day yet!) Nana spoils her grandchildren and rightfully so. Another stocking filled with surprises, and of course Macklan's favorite...

this recorder or "horn" as he calls it!

He got the book If You Give a Pig a Party and he got the pig too!

Come spring he'll love playing with his new soccer goal from Briley, Aunt KeKe, and Uncle Birdie.

Learning to spell his name already with the help of this adorable step stool with built-in name puzzle. What a great gift!

It's late. We're back home and ready for bed. One last thing though...
cookies and milk for Santa!

*By the way, these are the delicious sugar cookies Macklan and I made together. They turned out great!
Deciding that he would rather EAT the cookies than leave them for Santa!
Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!

Have a Holly Jolly...

CHRISTMAS and in case you didn't know...

My niece Briley performed in her Christmas dance recital and stole the show! She was absolutely adorable as a tap-dancing elf. For several months, Briley has been taking dance lessons for tap and ballet; however, I personally think she would shine even more in a hip-hop class. You should see her moves! She can work it for a 5 year old. I'm often astonished at her moves (which she primarily learns from watching Dancing with the Stars). Maybe she could give me some lessons! ha.

So that my sister could have a front row seat and enjoy watching the her daughter dance in the recital, I offered to be Briley's backstage helper. I was really honored to do this and enjoyed the one-on-one time with her as we colored, ate snacks, and whispered together as we awaited her turn on stage. She has such a sweet, fun-loving spirit and is beautiful from the inside-out. Prepping her with hair and make-up and giving her words of encouragement before stepping out onto the stage meant a lot to me. Since I was backstage, Macklan watched the performance with the rest of the "Briley Fan Club".

I was a little nervous about how he would behave and if he would get restless since the recital would last about an hour. After each group had performed, Briley and I went out to meet the family. Everyone was so proud of her and anxious to give her beautiful flowers...especially her biggest fan! Who by the way, loved everything about the recital except for the inflatable Grinch who popped up and down out of a chimney on stage. Macklan kept one eye on the Grinch at all times!

Here's Macklan giving Briley the hot pink roses and dancer ornament we got her.

I don't know who was more excited...

He even got a hug from this cute elf!

mErRy ChRiStMaS to ALL from these cute cousins (who could pass for siblings)!!!

I'm a proud aunt! I love this girl.

Keeping the florists in business...:)

Proud of our little elf! It was definitely a HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA!
